Hai Ky Mi Gia has been a popular go-to spot for noodle lovers in San Francisco for many years. It is located in the heart of the Tenderloin but people travel far to get their noodle fix here. I know friends that travel from the Peninsula and even San Jose that come here just to eat.
Hai Ky Mi Gia is a restaurant that specializes in Chinese/Vietnamese style noodle soups. It’s the same kind of cuisine as VH Noodle House. This restaurant has been on top of my list for awhile now and I was very excited to come here during lunch one day. They are known for their Braised Duck Leg Noodle Soup. You can choose from different types of noodles. They have ho fun (thick rice noodle), thin rice noodle, egg noodle and the wide egg noodle. You can also combine the two different types of noodles if you choose.
I ordered their famous braised duck wonton noodle soup with half thin egg noodle and half wide egg noodle (pictured above). All of their noodle soups are good but this one is their most popular. When it came out, it looked delicious! The broth was very clear and the braised duck leg was HUGE! They also gave me a good amount of noodles. The broth was very tasty. I was not disappointed. I have always been a fan of clear broths that pack flavor. The noodles were also good. Perfect consistency and I was glad I got two kind of noodles. It was like the best of both worlds. The wonton’s were good but not the greatest wontons I’ve had.
Overall, I would rate this place a 8.5/10. It really did hit the spot for me and it did not disappoint. I love this type of noodle soup and wish this place was closer to my house. If it was, I’d probably eat here 3-4 times a week. Unfortunately, they close very early. The close around 6pm everyday so the only time you can eat here is probably during lunch or if you like noodles in the morning, they open at 8am. Next time I will try their other famous noodle soup, Hai Ky Wonton Egg Noodle Soup.
